Vol. 3 No. 2

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. [ ORAL ANSWERS. ] - THE BORDER QUESTION.

asked the President if he has noticed the statement made by the Premier of Northern Ireland in the presence of an English Cabinet Minister, that "the great question of the Border is practically thrown altogether into the back-ground, and will probably never rise again?" And if he is in a position to assure this Dáil that this repudiation of an important provision of the Treaty does not express the attitude of either of the co-equal contracting parties to that instrument—namely, Saorstát Eireann and Great Britain?

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. The answer to the second part of the question is that all the provisions of the Treaty, including Clause 12 which deals with the Boundary question, continue to be of full force and effect.

May I ask has the President any information to give to the Dáil as to the further progress made with regard to the setting up of the Boundary question?

I have some difficulty in seeing how that arises out of the answer I have given.
