Vol. 3 No. 9

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. [ORAL ANSWERS.] - THE FRIENDLY SOCIETIES ACT.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he has considered the advisability of the abolition of the Friendly Societies Act, 1896; and if, in the interest and security of the public, he has contemplated an inquiry into the solvency of all companies operating under this Act.

replied: I am not at present prepared to make any definite statement in this matter, as the need of attending to more urgent public questions has, up to the present, made it impossible to give it adequate consideration. The matter is, however, not being lost sight of, and will be taken up as soon as a favourable opportunity presents itself.
