Vol. 3 No. 18

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. [ORAL ANSWERS.] - OLD AGE PENSION CLAIM (SLIGO).

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware that in the case of Margaret Egan, of Sligo (Pensions Officer's Register No. 1030A), the claimant's application for an old-age pension, originally made 2½ years ago, was recently vouched for by a well-known merchant, who is one of the oldest residents in Sligo, and also by the President of the St. Vincent de Paul Society in Sligo, it being impossible for the claimant to produce documentary evidence of birth on account of the destruction of the Cathedral records, and whether he is prepared to cause further enquiry to be made into the case with a view to the granting of the pension.

The first claim in this case was made not only 2½ years ago, but six years ago. The memoranda of testimony referred to in the question were not sufficiently definite and detailed to be accepted as proof of age. If the applicant will make a fresh application to the local Pensions Sub-Committee, and submit to them further and more detailed evidence of age in affidavit form, giving reasons for statements and opinions made therein, the case will be reconsidered.
