CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. [ ORAL ANSWERS. ] - CIVIL SERVICE OF THE SAORSTÁT.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the number of:—Higher Executive Officers, Lower Executive Officers, Higher Clerical Officers, Lower Clerical Officers, Typists, and Writing Assistants in the Civil Service of the Saorstát.

The latest staff return gives the following figures on 1st May last:—

Higher Executive Officers

Lower Executive Officers

Higher Clerical Officers

Writing Assistants

These figures include a certain number of acting appointments. It has to be borne in mind that these grades in the Civil Service were created prior to the change of Government, and that the Free State Government is not necessarily committed as regard grades or numbers or salaries to any establishment that may have been authorised prior to the change of Government.
