Vol. 4 No. 24

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. [ ORAL ANSWERS. ] - SOLDIERS' VOTES.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether soldiers serving outside their own Electoral areas can have their votes transferred to the area where they are serving, to allow them to cast their votes in favour of their candidates in the Electoral area where they are stationed.

Provision is made for the names of electors who are members of the Defence Forces and who desire to vote by post, to be entered on the Postal Voters List, vide Section 21 and 61 (4) (a) of the Electoral Act, 1923. An order under Section 61 entitled the “Registration of Electors (Defence Force) Order, 1923,” was issued on the 20th April last, and the requisite claim forms were distributed by the Ministry of Defence. All members of the Force who returned these forms claiming to vote by post have had their names entered on the Postal Voters List and ballot papers will be dispatched to them, not later than the day after nomination day, but no person can vote in respect of a constituency other than that in which he is registered.
