Vol. 6 No. 13

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - THE CIVIC GUARD MAGAZINE.

asked the Minister for Home Affairs if he will state the number of persons engaged in the production of the Civic Guard Magazine, the ranks of such persons, and their pay for this service; also, what is the annual cost of the magazine?

I assume that the Deputy refers to "Iris an Ghárda." I have no information as to the annual cost of this paper as the only specific payment out of public funds in connection therewith is the salary of the Editor (£310 per annum). The cost of paper, printing and other incidental expenses is met from the proceeds of sales and from advertisement charges. The Editor receives assistance in preparing material for the printers from one Sergeant and three Guards. (A Sergeant's rate of pay is £5 a week. A Guard's rate of pay is £3 10s. 0d. a week). Articles on various police matters are supplied free by Police Instructors and members of the Force, and these articles have been a useful factor in the training and improvement of the Force.
