Vol. 6 No. 25

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - A BALLYMORE-EUSTACE AWARD.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will again consider the totally inadequate award recommended in the case of Mrs. Julia Lawler, Central Hotel, Ballymore-Eustace, in view of the extensive damage done to the roof of the hotel and windows and woodwork by the National Troops in June, 1922.

The award which Mrs. Lawler has accepted in full settlement has already been reconsidered, and is thought to be adequate compensation for the damage done to the premises.

Arising out of the Minister's answer, may I ask him if he is aware of the exact extent of this damage? This hotel has three shops underneath——

The Deputy cannot make a statement.

The roof was seriously damaged, and the lady is far from satisfied with the amount awarded, which is only sufficient to repair three of the rooms. Will the Minister reconsider the matter?

The matter has been considered, but if there is any fresh evidence with regard to the damage I will have it reconsidered.
