Vol. 6 No. 36

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - GRANTS FOR TRUNK ROADS.

SEAN MAC GIOLLA 'N RIOGH

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state upon what grounds the Cavan Urban District has only been allocated £700 for improvement of trunk roads as against £1,000 to Monaghan Urban District, and if he is aware that the sum allocated to Cavan Urban District should be at least doubled to meet the requirements in that district, and if in view of this the amount allocated to Cavan Urban District will be increased.

, replying: The grant recently made available for trunk roads was apportioned on the basis of population, valuation and road expenditure. As each of these is greater in Monaghan Urban District than in Cavan Urban District the share of the former in the grant is the greater.

As the grant has been apportioned no further sum can be allocated therefrom. It is, however, open to the County Council of Cavan to supplement, out of the grant allocated to to them, the £700 allocated to the Urban District Council of Cavan as has been done by the Councils of other counties in the case of certain urban district councils within their counties.
