Vol. 7 No. 8

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - DAMAGE TO MOTOR VAN.

asked the Minister for Defence if he is aware that on December 26th, 1923, a military Crossley tender, driven by Private Griffin, Transport Department, Griffith Barracks, coming from Island Bridge on to the Dublin-Lucan road, ran into a Ford van, driven by Michael Stapleton, Main street, Kilcock, Co. Kildare, and that damage amounting to £44 was done, and whether he will see that this matter is inquired into and settled.

The collision referred to has been fully investigated by a Court of Inquiry before which Mr. Stapleton gave evidence, and stated that the cost of repairing the damage to his car was £6 9s. 0d. The Court found that the collision was purely accidental and exonerated the driver of the military car from all blame. In view of this, it is not proposed to make any payment by way of compensation to Mr. Stapleton.

Arising out of that answer, is the President aware that the actual amount is over £40?

I have not seen the papers in connection with this case, but I intend to go into the matter.
