Vol. 7 No. 9

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - SOLDIER'S RATION ALLOWANCE.

asked the Minister for Defence whether the payment of ration allowance is due to Private Gerald Doyle, Army No. 4225, of Timolin, Ballytore, Co. Kildare, who served as orderly to the R.C. Chaplain, Curragh Camp, from the 22nd May, 1922, the day on which the National Troops took over occupation of the Camp from the British forces, to the date (about the middle of October, 1922) on which he was ordered to take up duty in Gough Barracks, and, if so, whether he will expedite payment of arrears.

No payment is due to Mr. Doyle in respect of ration allowance. For the period referred to, Mr. Doyle was attached to Gough Barracks for rations, and was repeatedly warned that rations were available there for him. He was notified on the 2nd March, 1923, that his claim had been disallowed.

Is the Minister aware that Army pay was allowed to Doyle from the time the National troops took over the occupation of the camp, and therefore he was entitled to receive rations?

Yes, that is true, but he was also informed that he should report to Gough Barracks for rations.
