Vol. 7 No. 17

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - CO. KILKENNY DEPENDENT'S ALLOWANCE.

EAMON O DUBHGHAILL

asked the Minister for Defence whether he has received an application from Mrs. Molloy, Esker, Jenkinstown, Co. Kilkenny, for dependent's allowance in respect of her son, Volunteer William Molloy, No. 19032, A Company, 47th Battalion, who joined the National Army in May, 1922, and was discharged on the 28th of January, 1924, and to ask if payment will be expedited.

Mrs. Molloy's claim for dependent's allowance was disallowed after due investigation on the ground that the amount normally contributed by her son to his home over and above the cost of his own maintenance therein for a reasonable period prior to enlistment was less than the minimum required by the regulations, 12s. per week, before an allowance might be issued. Mrs. Molloy was notified accordingly on 30th January last.

Arising out of that answer, is the Minister aware that he was contributing 30s. a week to the upkeep of his mother?

I am not aware of it. I will undertake to look into the file.
