Vol. 7 No. 22

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - DETENTION OF POSTAL PARCELS.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware that a parcel sent by Messrs. A.W. Gamage, Ltd., London, on the 6th May to Rev. J. Lynam, C.C., Tullamore, has not yet been delivered; and if he is aware that a notice was sent Fr. Lynam by the Post Office Authorities on the 28th May to the effect that the parcel was being detained for test, although the contents were specified on the invoice attached to the parcel; if he will state how long more the detention for test is to last, and if he will take steps to prevent this and other delays in the transmission of business by post.

There was no delay as far as the Post Office was concerned.

The parcel was received in Dublin on the 9th May, and was handed over to the Customs Authorities on the same date for examination. The parcel was not received back in the Post Office from the Customs Authorities until the 6th instant, when it was put in course for delivery.

It is understood that the declaration on the parcel was insufficient, as it merely described the contents as "chemicals."
