CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - CAVAN AND LEITRIM RAILWAY.

SEAN MAC GIOLLA 'N RIOGH

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state whether any proposals have been considered by the Government for converting the Cavan and Leitrim narrow gauge railway into a wide gauge railway; and, if so, whether he is in a position to state if such proposals will become operative.

The Minister for Industry and Commerce is not acquainted with any proposals for the broadening of this railway. It will be included in the amalgamated undertaking to be formed under the Railways Bill, and any such proposal will then be a matter for the amalgamated company.

I was not quite certain about the Minister's answer. Do I gather that his reply was that no such proposals were considered?

The Minister is not acquainted with any proposals for the broadening of this railway. It will be included in the amalgamated undertaking to be formed under the Railways Bill, and any such proposal will then be a matter for the amalgamated company.

Arising out of that answer, whether the Minister is acquainted or not with such proposals, the question is: has the Government considered any such proposals? It is not whether or not the Minister is acquainted with them.

No such proposals seem to have been considered. I am not speaking with first-hand knowledge.

If I put down a question again, will I be able to get definite information as to whether such proposals have been considered?

Yes, I think so.
