Vol. 8 No. 9

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - DIVISION OF CLARE LANDS.

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture if he will state when it is proposed to divide the lands in Clare which come within the provisions of the Land Act, 1923, and if, in consideration of the fact that large tracts of these lands are in the two Unions in Clare which are not scheduled as congested, he will consider the advisability of having them so scheduled, so that the landless men and uneconomic holders in these districts may have early redress given to their grievances.

Untenanted lands acquired by the Land Commission in County Clare will be divided as soon as practicable after they are vested in the Commission under the provisions of the Land Act, 1923.

It is not proposed to amend Section 46 of the Land Act of 1909, which defines the Congested Districts, County of Clare, as consisting of the six rural districts of Ballyvaughan, Ennistymon, Kilrush, Scariff, Tulla and Kildysart.

The Land Commission have the same powers to acquire lands compulsorily in the non-congested districts as in the congested districts.
