Vol. 8 No. 14

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - WICKLOW SOLDIER'S PENSION CLAIM.

asked the Minister for Defence whether he is aware that Volunteer Thomas Doyle, of Rathnew, Co. Wicklow, Army No. 1455, 6th Company, 50th Battalion, was seriously wounded in the hip by the accidental discharge of a sentry's rifle at Rathmore, Co. Kerry, on September 20th, 1923, and was demobilised on March 31st, 1924, as medically unfit, and has not received any pension or gratuity; further, whether he is aware that this man is unable to work, and is living on the charity of a few friends, and whether he will expedite consideration of the case with a view to granting a pension or gratuity.

I am aware of the accidental wounding of Mr. Doyle. Mr. Doyle was not discharged from the Army until the 28th April last. The appropriate form of application for a pension or gratuity was received from him on the 25th ultimo. Consideration of the case is being expedited as much as possible.
