Vol. 8 No. 15

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - RATHDRUM COMPENSATION CLAIM.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state on what grounds the claim of Mr. Charles Cullen, Rathdrum, for injuries received on the 11th May, 1922, was refused by the Compensation (Personal Injuries) Committee.

The application referred to by the Deputy was carefully considered by the Compensation (Personal Injuries) Committee, who came to the conclusion that the injuries sustained were not of a permanent nature. In view of the position and means of the applicant the Committee did not consider that he suffered any hardship as a result of the injuries.

As a supplementary question, is the President aware that this man received those injuries in successfully defending his motor car, whereas, if he had allowed the car to be taken, he would have got compensation for it? He was in hospital for months, and the doctor's fee alone came to £75, and is he to be penalised for his display of such high moral and civic courage in defending his car?

I will undertake to look into the matter.
