Vol. 8 No. 22

WRITTEN ANSWERS. - A FERMOY ARMY ACCOUNT.

asked the Minister for Defence whether he is aware that the Military Authorities still owe Miss O'Connor, proprietress, Grand Hotel, Fermoy, £722 9s. 3d.; that this amount is outstanding since August, 1922; that the account has repeatedly been rendered in detail; that Miss O'Connor, who is only a short time in business, feels the loss of this large outstanding amount, and whether he will now issue instructions that this amount be paid without delay.

A claim by Miss O'Connor for £470 3s. 3d. in respect of the military occupation of the Grand Hotel as from the 1st September until the 31st December, 1922, was assessed at £73 1s. Od. by the Commissioners of Public Works, who issued a cheque for that amount to her solicitor, Mr. Anthony Carroll, Fermoy, on the 27th June last, in full settlement of the claim. In addition, billeting claims, amounting to £718 18s. Od., and covering the period from September, 1922, to February, 1923, were received from Miss O'Connor, and were discharged by the Department of Defence by three payments, amounting to £488 12s. Od. The balance—£231 6s. Od.—represents deductions made in respect of charges in excess of authorised rates.

It is not proposed to make any further payments to Miss O'Connor in respect of these claims.
