Vol. 9 No. 2

WRITTEN ANSWERS. - CLAIM FOR A HORSE.

SEAN O LAIDHIN

asked the Minister for Defence if he is aware that a claim for compensation in respect of the shooting of a horse, the property of Mr. James Caulfield, Connaught Street, Athlone, by a sentry of the National Army at the outpost Gallows Hill, Athlone, on September 11th, 1922, was lodged in September, 1922, and has not yet been paid; and whether in view of the poor circumstances of the claimant payment will be expedited.

It appears that Mr. Caulfield's horse was shot in the course of operations between the National Forces and Irregulars. The claim, therefore, comes under the Damage to Property Acts, and could not be met out of Army funds.
