Vol. 9 No. 8

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - VAN SERVICE FOR SHALVEY N.S.

asked the Minister for Education whether a van service for taking children to and from Shalvey N.S., Co. Donegal, was approved of in July, 1923; whether it was further agreed that the Department would make monthly payments to the van-driver for his services; whether he has received a communication from the manager to the effect that no payment has been made for the past seven months; and whether he will see that the matter receives immediate attention.

This van service was established in 1909 for the purpose of conveying school children from Cranchoe district to Shalvey National School, Co. Donegal.

It was arranged that payment would be made on receipt of periodical certificates from the Manager of Shalvey National School that the service was regularly and efficiently performed. Since the 31st of March last the manager of Shalvey National School has declined to sign the certificates on the ground that a pupil from his parish has been excluded from the van, and in the absence of these certificates payment for the period since the 31st March last has not been made.

The relative papers have been sent to the Divisional Inspector for a report on the facts of the case as soon as possible.
