CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - DISTRIBUTION OF WESTMEATH LANDS.

SEAN O LAIDHIN

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture whether it is the intention of the Land Commission to have the lands of Newforest, Cloneyhigne, Ballinagore, Westmeath, distributed at an early date for the relief of congestion; and also if he is aware that Mr. Wm. Wright, of Knock, Ballinagore, has offered five allotments to the Land Commission for the relief of congestion in that district, and, if so, whether the Land Commission has accepted Mr. Wright's offer, and if he will state when this land will be distributed.

Mr. HOGAN

The Land Commission are in negotiation for the purchase of 424 acres of untenanted lands in the townland of Cloncrow, adjoining Newforest, and they expect the negotiations will be completed at an early date.

As regards the lands referred to in the latter part of the question, the Land Commission understand that Mr. Wright is prepared to consider an exchange of portion of the lands he has purchased under the Land Purchase Acts, and the matter is engaging attention.
