Vol. 9 No. 11

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - MULLINGAR MAN'S ARREST.

SEAN O LAIDHIN

asked the Minister for Justice whether he is aware that James Mrutach, Mount Street, Mullingar, was arrested on May 17th, 1924, and has since been detained in Mountjoy Prison without any charge having been referred against him, and whether it is proposed to put him on trial or order his release.

James Murtagh was committed to Mountjoy Prison on the 17th MAy last by the Bankruptcy Judge of the High Court for a difinite offence, namely, contempt of that court. This is a matter in which the Executive cannot interfere, and any application by the prisoner for his release should be made to the judge of the High Court sitting for the disposal fo bankruptcy matters, who will make such order as to the release or retention in custody of the prisoner a sin this discretion he may see fit.
