Vol. 9 No. 27

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - ATHLONE COMPENSATION AWARD.

SEAN O LAIDHIN

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware that Mr. Michael Macken, Lisdullure, Cornafulla, Athlone, was awarded £120 in November, 1923, as compensation for property burned by British Forces: and that payment of this award be expedited.

No award on behalf of the person named in the Deputy's question has yet been received from the Compensation (Ireland) Commission, and the question of payment does not therefore arise.

Can the Minister say what steps these people should take, or what methods they should adopt, so that their claims can be heard.

In this particular case it may be that the matter can be dealt with at once when the new Terms of Reference have been issued. I understand that the claim has been investigated, and the only point at issue is whether it is within the Terms of Reference.

This particular claim was awarded by the County Court Judge in 1922, and it has not yet been paid.

Will the Minister say when the new Terms of Reference will be circulated?

They are being published in the "Gazette."
