Vol. 9 No. 27

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - EX-SOLDIER'S CLAIM FOR PAY.

asked the Minister for Defence whether he is now prepared to pay the amount of £50 11s. claimed for pay and due to Joseph Carr, Army No. 42126, Book No. 56392, Unit A. Coy., 3rd Battalion, Northern Command; whether this man's pay-book was lost by the Army authorities; whether he received any pay from June 18th, 1923, until his discharge on May 12th, 1924, and whether arrears sheets duly signed by the various commanding officers under whom he served, were duly forwarded to the Quarter-master-General's Department, Portobello Barracks, on October 2nd, 1924, and again on October 28th, 1924, and whether any reply was received.

The necessary investigations in connection with Mr. Carr's claim are not yet completed. The matter is, however, being expedited as much as possible. Mr. Carr's pay-book has been mislaid, and in its absence additional enquiries have had to be made. The forms referred to by the Deputy were duly received, but in accordance with the procedure for dealing with claims these forms will have to be re-verified. I will communicate further with the Deputy regarding his Question as soon as possible.
