Vol. 9 No. 27

WRITTEN ANSWERS. - CASTLECOMER DEPENDENT'S ALLOWANCE.

asked the Minister for Defence whether Mrs. Mary Love, New Road, Castlecomer, is in receipt of dependent's allowance in respect of her son, Patrick Love, who received but a sum of £28 8s.; whether this woman, who has two children, whose baptismal certificates were sent to the Army Authorities in January last, and who are under the age of fourteen years, is not entitled to dependent's allowance in respect of same, having regard to the fact that her husband is an invalid and unable to work, and whether he will take this case into consideration and have it reviewed.

Patrick Love was discharged on the 26th March last and Mrs. Love is not therefore in receipt of dependent's allowance. The allowance was paid from the date of the soldier's attestation to the date (10th October, 1922) on which he was placed on a flat rate of pay (inclusive of allowances) as a member of the Military Police when, in accordance with regulations, the dependent's allowance was no longer payable. During the period in which it was issued, Mrs. Love received the maximum rate issuable in respect of an unmarried soldier, and her claim for an increase cannot therefore be entertained.
