Vol. 10 No. 6

WRITTEN ANSWERS. - BOROUGH COURT CLERK'S COMPENSATION.

SEAN O LAIDHIN

asked the Minister for Justice whether he is aware that Mr. Patrick Geraghty, Connaught Street, Athlone, acted as Clerk of the Borough Court up to 1922, when such courts were abolished, and whether, seeing that Mr. Geraghty has had twenty-five years' service, he can say why compensation or gratuity in respect of his office has not yet been paid.

Clerks of Town Courts were appointed by and paid by the local authority. I have no official information as to Mr. Geraghty: I do not know officially what the terms of his appointment were, or whether he has any claim to a pension or a gratuity. If he has, it is a claim against the local authority and I have no responsibility for the local authority's refusal to pay.
