Vol. 10 No. 19

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - POSTAL FACILITIES IN ATHY.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if, in the case of the important town of Athy, serious complaint is being made as to the inadequate postal facilities afforded to the business and commercial community; if outgoing mail for Dublin and cross-Channel must be posted by 3.15 p.m. and later at 7 p.m., and if he will direct that a mail to take the overnight letters should be despatched by the morning train so that they could be delivered in Dublin by 11.30 a.m. or 12 noon.

I am not aware that the existing postal facilities at Athy are causing public dissatisfaction. The latest time of posting for the night mail despatch is 7.25 p.m.— not 7.0 p.m.—and no improvement is practicable, as there is not a later train.

I will consider whether a mail to Dublin by the morning train would be warranted, but in any case delivery in Dublin would not take place earlier than 2.30 p.m.
