Vol. 11 No. 5

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - OLD AGE PENSION CLAIM (CO. LIMERICK).

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state on what ground Mr. William Larkin, Pension Register No. 1928, of Drumcollogher, Co. Limerick, was refused an old age pension, in view of the fact that he has no means of his own and no claim upon any relation or other persons for support.

The claim to the old age pension in this case was disallowed on the 26th ultimo on the ground that the claimant's means as calculated for pension purposes exceeded the statutory limit of £39 5s. 0d. a year. He is maintained on the farm of a relation and the value of that maintenance must be recognised whether it is given voluntarily or otherwise.

Is the Minister aware that the new Budget in England is doing away with all these differentiations in the case of old age pensions?
