Vol. 11 No. 6

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - SHANNON SCHEME.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is in a position to state on what basis compensation will be paid to firms whose mills have to be temporarily or permanently closed down as a result of work being carried out in connection with the Shannon Scheme; if sufficient warning will be given to such firms to enable them to make the necessary arrangements to carry on their business elsewhere, and if he will state what will be the procedure to enable proprietors of such mills to present their cases for compensation.

These are all matters for which the Bill authorising the Shannon Scheme will necessarily provide. It is not desirable, and is scarcely possible, to anticipate by question and answer the provisions of pending legislation, but I may say that any possible interference such as is suggested will be reduced to a minimum, and due provision for compensation for any unavoidable interference will be made.
