Vol. 11 No. 6

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - CLOSING OF CO. MEATH SUB-POST OFFICE.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether he is aware of the serious inconvenience caused to residents of Warrenstown, Drumree, County Meath, as a result of the closing of the sub-post office there; that the people who in the past used this Post Office are now from three to four miles distant from the nearest Post Office, and are placed at a disadvantage in the matter of purchasing postage stamps, and transacting business by parcel and letter post, and whether, in view of the very small cost of running the Office at Warrenstown, and the hardships endured by the public he will reconsider the reopening of this office.

The Warrenstown sub-Post Office, Co. Meath, was closed in October last, as it was found that the business transacted there was negligible and did not warrant the maintenance of the Office. Warrenstown is only 1¾ miles from the sub-Post Office at Drumree. A postman serves the district on six days a week, and as he can sell stamps and postal orders to applicants, and accept letters for registration and parcels for the Post, the closing of the office should not entail any serious inconvenience to local residents. A letter box is being erected near the site of the former premises. I regret that in the circumstances I would not be justified in reopening this office.
