Vol. 11 No. 6

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - A CO. TIPPERARY SEARCH.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will state why a raid was made on the house of James O'Brien, of Castlegrace, Clogheen, Co. Tipperary, about midnight on the night of the 30th January, 1924, by the Gárda Síochána; if the Gárda burst in Mr. O'Brien's door, and kept him standing almost undressed for a long period; if they were not dressed in uniform, and if they refused to produce any evidence of identification, and if Mr. O'Brien had any means of knowing that they were members of the Gárda Síochána.

Mr. O'Brien's house was searched about midnight on the 30th January, 1925, by a Superintendent and some members of the Gárda Síochána in an attempt to apprehend two persons suspected of having committed a felony. Mr. O'Brien was informed of the identities of the party, some of whom were in uniform. Admittance was demanded and was refused by Mr. O'Brien, whereupon, after warning, an entrance was effected and the search carried out with as little inconvenience as possible to Mr. O'Brien and his family.
