Vol. 11 No. 6

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - EX-WARDSMAN'S PENSION (NAVAN).

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether he can state the reason for the reduction from £31 8s. 1d. to £27 18s. 8d. in 1922 in the pension of Mr. John Smyth, ex-wardsman, Navan Workhouse Hospital; whether, in view of the fact that Mr. Smyth has had twenty-one years' service and has a large family dependent on him, and is in a delicate state of health, he will advise the County Board of Health to pay Mr. Smyth a pension at the rate of £31 8s. 1d., as fixed in 1921.

The pension in this case was calculated in accordance with the usual practice. In the calculations made by the Guardians an allowance of £13 for apartments was made. This officer, who was a night watchman, slept at home, so that no such allowance could be included. The pension was disputed, and I have now made an Order determining the pension at £27 18s. 9d. a year.
