Vol. 11 No. 8

PRIVATE NOTICE QUESTIONS. - DUTY ON GLASS BOTTLES—QUESTION OF MODIFICATION.

asked the Minister for Finance whether his attention has been called to a statement in the "Irish Times" of yesterday's date, that modifications in the duty on glass bottles have been agreed to; whether such statement is correct and authorised by him, and whether he will arrange in future that such information be communicated to the Dáil in the first instance.

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative.

The answer to the second part of the question is in the negative. As I have no control over what is published in the Press, the point raised in the third part of the question does not seem to arise.

Are we to understand that the whole statement is incorrect, and if so will the Minister consider the desirability of issuing some correction?

I have not the statement before me, and I could not say if the whole of it is incorrect.

Has any modification been made in this duty?

No modification could be made except by resolution of the Dáil.

Will the Minister state that the schedule of the taxable goods according to his Budget statement will appear in the Press, and is he aware that there is a large dumping of goods going on even to-day?

That will have to form the subject of a separate question.
