Vol. 11 No. 9

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - RENT OF WORKMEN'S DWELLINGS.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether he can state the average rent charged for workmen's dwellings containing three, four, and five rooms, respectively, provided by county boroughs, urban district councils, and rural district councils, to cover the costs of administration, maintenance, insurance, sinking fund, and development, exclusive of loan repayment charges, or any charges connected with the cost of erection.

The rents payable by the tenants referred to vary very considerably in different localities, and the fixing of the amounts in cases other than labourers' cottages is not a matter in which I have any direct responsibility. The preparation of a statement of averages in the form desired would take considerable time, as the details would have to be obtained in the first instance from the various local authorities. Perhaps before such would be undertaken, the Deputy might be so good as to consider the submission of the question in another form.
