Vol. 11 No. 14

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - RELIEVING OFFICER'S SUPERANNUATION (LISTOWEL).

SEAMUS O CRUADHLAOICH

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state the cause of the delay in granting superannuation to Mr. Richard Walsh, Charles Street, Listowel, late Relieving Officer and sub-Sanitary Officer to the Listowel and surrounding districts.

Mr. Walsh acted as relieving officer and sub-sanitary officer and also as a rate collector under the county council. He was awarded a pension on the 10th March, 1924, in respect of his services in the first-mentioned capacity. There was no authority at the time to grant him a superannuation allowance, as having held the post of rate collector the joint office of assistance officer under the Poor Law Authority and sub-sanitary officer under the sanitary authority was not a whole-time one, and was not, therefore, pensionable. Mr. Walsh was informed to this effect on the 30th ultimo. If, however, he comes within the provisions of Section 45 of the Local Government Act, 1925, it is open to him to apply to the local authorities to award him a pension under that Act.

Mr. CROWLEY

Is the Minister aware that another man employed under exactly similar conditions by the Listowel Rural District Council is now getting superannuation, and why is not Walsh getting it? Why give it to one man and not to the other?

I am not aware of that fact.

Mr. CROWLEY

I can give the Minister the man's name and address.
