Vol. 11 No. 16

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - GALWAY COUNTY COUNCIL'S EMPLOYEES.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he can state what are the rates of wages paid to surface men, stone breakers and carters employed by the Galway County Council; whether the same rates are paid throughout the entire county; what rates are paid in the Portumna area, and whether he will state the reasons for the difference, if any, between the rates paid by that area and in other portions of the county.

From the last information on the subject supplied by the Galway County Council, the following daily rates of wages were payable:—4s. 6d. to surface men and stone breakers; 9s. to carters, employed by the County Council. The same rates were payable, apparently, throughout the entire county.

An inquiry on the matter was addressed to the County Council on the receipt of the Deputy's question. I have not received a reply so far, but I will let the Deputy know the result later.
