Vol. 11 No. 17

CEISTEANNA.—QUESTIONS. [ORAL ANSWERS.] - DUTIABLE GOODS ON APPROVAL.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware that small cottage industries sending such goods as lace, embroideries, stockings, etc., on approval outside the Saorstát have considerable difficulty in finding a Customs officer who will sign the necessary forms, and whether he will consider if it is possible, where such goods are sent on approval by parcels post, to allow the goods to be inspected, and the forms signed, by the Postmaster at the post office from which they are despatched.

I am aware that difficulty such as that indicated has arisen. The Revenue Commissioners have under consideration arrangements which will meet the difficulty, and they hope to be in a position to issue a public notice on the subject at an early date.

Will the Minister give special attention to the county of Tirconaill, which is so long and scattered a county as to make arrangements there very difficult?

That particular county has already received special attention, and I know the Revenue Commissioners realise the difficulties that exist there.
