Vol. 11 No. 17

CEISTEANNA.—QUESTIONS. [ORAL ANSWERS.] - ENNISCORTHY COMPENSATION CLAIM.

asked the Minister for Finance if he has received repeated applications for compensation from John Whelan, Vinegar Hill Hotel, Enniscorthy, and if he can state when it is proposed to deal with the claim.

A number of applications for compensation have been received from the person named by the Deputy. Of these, two awards in respect of the pre-Truce period have been received from the Compensation (Ireland) Commission, and have been duly discharged by the issue of two paying orders for £80 and £27 with costs. It is understood that portions of the claim which were not within the scope of the Commission's original terms of reference are at present under investigation. An award for £120 and £17 5s. 6d. costs in respect of the post-Truce period was paid in September, 1924.

Is the Minister in a position to say when the other claims will be heard?

That is a matter on which we must await the action of the Compensation (Ireland) Commission.
