Vol. 11 No. 17

CEISTEANNA.—QUESTIONS. [ORAL ANSWERS.] - EXTENSION OF SKERRIES TELEPHONE SERVICE.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether he has received a letter from the Skerries Improvement Committee asking for an extension of the telephone service after 8 p.m. at night, and whether he can see his way to grant such extension.

I received a letter on the 18th inst. from the Skerries Improvement Committee, complaining that the local Telephone Exchange closes at 8 p.m., and the matter is receiving attention.

Will the Minister consider if he cannot give a service until midnight in order to facilitate Dublin people who go down to Skerries on their summer holiday?

I realise that extension of the telephone service, particularly during the summer months, is essential.

Has the Minister's attention been drawn to the comments of the Skerries Improvement Committee on the lack of telephone communication at night, when road hogs ride down foot passengers, and the consequent impossibility of notifying the next police station with a view to the detention of the road hogs?

Yes: but that applies everywhere.
