Vol. 11 No. 21

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFIT CLAIMS.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that James Carroll, Rathasker Road, Naas, Book No. 4118, Droichead Nua Office, was, it is stated, allowed ninety days' unemployment benefit on his claim of March 16th, 1925, and was paid only three days' benefit, and whether he will state the reason for withholding payment of the remaining eighty-seven days.

No contribution was paid for the applicant in the insurance year 1923-1924, and he is thereby disqualified for the receipt of benefit by Section 8 (4) of the Unemployment Insurance Act, 1920. It is, however, claimed that he is entitled to the payment of contributions in respect of a period of military service during the insurance year 1923-1924 and this question is under investigation.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he will expedite payment to Christopher Ryan, of Lumville, Curragh Camp, Book No. 1541, Droichead Nua Office, who lodged a claim to unemployment insurance benefit on March 28th, 1925.

On a claim to unemployment insurance benefit made by Christopher Ryan on the 28th March 1925, he appeared to be entitled to benefit for 90 days, being the maximum number of days payable in the current benefit year before any payment was made, however, information reached the Department which made it necessary to enquire whether one of the statutory conditions for the receipt of unemployment insurance benefit was, in fact, fulfilled by Mr. Ryan. The claim is still under investigation, and it is hoped that the enquiries will be completed at an early date. Meanwhile benefit cannot be paid.
