Vol. 12 No. 2

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - IRISH PACKING CO. (DROGHEDA) PREMISES.

SEAMUS O MURCHADHA

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether the premises of the Irish Packing Company at Drogheda have been sold and are about to be reopened; whether the interested parties have applied for facilities under the Trade Loans (Guarantee) Act, 1924, and, if so, whether such facilities are being granted, and whether, in view of the public interest manifested in this matter, he will make a statement covering the facts of the case.

Negotiations are in progress for the purchase from the liquidator of the premises and plant of this company. The re-opening of the business depends on the result of these negotiations and other financial arrangements necessary for the carrying on of such an enterprise. The syndicate interested in the matter has made an application under the Trade Loans (Guarantee) Act, and this application is at present under consideration by me and by the Minister for Finance. In regard to the concluding part of the Deputy's question, I do not consider that the present is an opportune time for going into the matter in greater detail.
