Vol. 12 No. 5

LATE SITTING.

I move:—

"That the Dáil sit later than 8.30 and that the motion for the adjournment be taken not later than 10.30 p.m."

Would the Minister say what the business is for the late sitting?

Nothing except what is on the Agenda.

I think there is a Standing Order that we must define the business for a late sitting.

Does the President think it right to take a measure of the importance of the Finance Bill on an Order of this kind? Is it not of such great importance as to have precedence over other matters? There are 29 amendments to it and the result is that we will be discussing it in a disjointed way throughout the week.

I think the answer lies in the fact that a good deal of the business which is down prior to the Finance Bill on the Order Paper will not occupy much time. Notwithstanding the position of the Bill on the Order Paper, it never appears to suffer from lack of criticism. It is always carefully considered.

Question put and agreed to.
