Vol. 13 No. 1

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - INTRODUCTION OF SCHOOL ATTENDANCE BILL.

asked the President if he can state definitely when it is proposed to introduce the School Attendance Bill which was promised for introduction at the beginning of this year.

It is hoped to introduce a Bill dealing with school attendance on or about the 24th November.

Mr. O'CONNELL

Does the Minister not recollect that he gave a very definite undertaking that this Bill would be introduced on the first day of this Session, and it is now only hoped that it will be introduced in three weeks time?

I recollect having given that assurance, but circumstances, over which neither the Deputy nor myself had any control, make it necessary to give no further undertaking than that it is hoped to introduce the measure on the 24th November.

In the expectation that the Minister for Education will be present when the Bill is introduced?

Yes, I think I can give you that guarantee.
