Vol. 13 No. 1

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - MITCHELSTOWN PERSONAL INJURY CLAIMS.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware that Mr. Maurice O'Connor, James's Street, Mitchelstown, and members of his family, received severe injuries at the hands of British Forces in July, 1921, in consequence of which they were unable to follow their usual occupation for some considerable time and were in want; whether the claim of those applicants was investigated by the Compensation (Personal Injuries) Committee, and whether any award was made, and whether the applicants are entitled to any compensation as a result of the injuries they received.

The applications of Maurice O'Connor, Mary O'Connor, James O'Connor and Michael O'Connor for compensation in respect of personal injuries sustained in July, 1921, were investigated by the Compensation (Personal Injuries) Committee, who found that none of the applicants sustained any injury of a serious or permanent nature. In the case of the last-named, Michael O'Connor, the Committee recommended the payment of an ex-gratia grant of £5 to cover the expenses incurred by him in connection with the hearing of his case in Dublin. In the other cases the Committee recommended that no compensation should be paid. I agree with the findings of the Committee, and I am not disposed to vary their recommendations.
