Vol. 13 No. 2

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - TULLAMORE MAINTENANCE CLAIM.

asked the Minister for Defence whether he is aware that Volunteer John Carroll, No. 20157, "C" Company, 11th Battalion, National Army, died in Waterford on the 25th March, 1925; that his wife died seven months previously, leaving two children, aged five and two and a half years respectively, dependent on their grandmother, Mrs. Margaret McGee, Davitt Street, Tullamore; that Mrs. McGee was refused maintenance allowance for the children by his Department, and whether in view of the fact that their grandmother is unable to provide for those children he will review their claim for maintenance.

I am aware of the circumstances of the case. Volunteer John Carroll died from natural causes, namely, phthisis following influenza, in March last. The case is outside the provisions of the Army Pensions Act, 1923. I regret very much that I have no funds at my disposal out of which a grant might be paid to Mrs. McGee.
