Vol. 13 No. 8

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - ENNISCORTHY DISTRESS.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware of the distress prevailing in Enniscorthy, by reason of continued unemployment; if repeated applications have been made to his Department for a grant in relief of this situation, and if he will state what are his intentions in this connection.

Representations have been made to me regarding the position in Enniscorthy, but on the information at present available, I am unable to sanction a grant from the Relief Schemes Vote.

What sort of information will the Minister require in order to be able to sanction a grant for the relief of unemployment? Does he not know that unemployment is rife throughout every county in the Saorstát?

The funds available are limited and have to be allocated to the nation.
