Vol. 13 No. 12

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - REDUCTION OF TYPING STAFFS.

asked the Minister for Defence whether it is the practice of his Department to ensure that, when it is necessary to reduce the staff of temporary typists, the persons first dismissed will be those with the shortest service; and whether this practice will be followed in the case of the typing staff at Ballymullen Military Barracks, Tralee.

It has been decided that there should not in future be any civilian typing staff employed with the military unit stationed in Ballymullen Barracks, Tralee. All such staff, two in number, are in consequence, I regret to say, under notice of termination of service. The question of determining who should first be discharged does not therefore arise. If it had arisen, length of service, amongst other factors, would have been taken into account before coming to a decision.
