Vol. 13 No. 12

WRITTEN ANSWERS. - EX-OFFICER'S PENSION CLAIM.

SEAMUS O CRUADHLAOICH

asked the Minister for Defence if he is aware that Michael J. Dunne, Tralee, ex-Lieutenant and Claims Officer of the National Army, has been actively associated with the Volunteers since their inception; that he was entrusted with and performed important and dangerous work in County Kerry; that he subsequently operated with the Mid-Limerick Brigade until the Truce; that he had taken part in many engagements against the British forces; that he was severely wounded, maltreated, and imprisoned, and that his home was burned down; that he joined the National Army and rendered efficient and faithful service to the Saorstát until he was demobilised; if he will state on what grounds his application for a Military Service Pension has been rejected, and if, in view of Mr. Dunne's record, he will re-examine this case.

Mr. Dunne's application under the Military Service Pensions Act, 1924, has been referred to the Board of Assessors, who exclusively will determine his service for pension purposes. The Board have not yet reported to me on his case. No decision has, therefore, been taken as to the grant of a pension to him. I understand, however, that the Board have requested him to furnish fresh evidence, if any, in support of his application.
