asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he can state why an old age pension has been refused to Mrs. Catherine Mahedy, Soho, Multyfarnham, Westmeath, notwithstanding the fact that an affidavit has been sworn by Mr. Edward Molloy, Multyfarnham; if he is aware that the Mullingar Old Age Pension Committee has allowed this woman's claim on three different occasions within the past three years; and whether, as the applicant's brother, who is seventy-five years of age, and is but two years older than the applicant, who is in very poor circumstances, has been drawing the pension for the past five years, he will have pension granted.

Two claims to the old age pension in this case have already been disallowed on appeal on the ground of insufficient evidence to show that the claimant had attained the age of 70 years. An appeal on a third claim was received on the 23rd ultimo, and is now under investigation, but no decision has been reached. The file is being referred to one of the Department's General Inspectors for local investigation of the facts bearing on age. A decision will be given at once on receipt of the Inspector's report.
