CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - ACQUISITION OF CO. KILDARE LANDS.

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture if he will state what action, if any, has been taken by the Land Commission to acquire the lands, consisting of 409 acres, in the townland of Greenhills, electoral division of Newbridge Rural, Co. Kildare, held by Mr. R.H.M. Reeves, for the relief of congests and landless men in the neighbourhood, and whether he will expedite the acquisition of this holding.

Mr. HOGAN

The Land Commission are having the untenanted lands of Greenhills, Co. Kildare, inspected with a view to deciding as to their suitability for acquisition under the 1923 Land Act, and the matter is being dealt with as expeditiously as possible.

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture if he will state what action, if any, has been taken by the Land Commission to acquire the following lands on the La Touche estate near Kilcullen, Co. Kildare, consisting of 83 acres in the townland of Rochestown, 262 acres in the townland of Harristown, 94 acres in the townland of Dunstown, 342 acres in the townland of Carnalway, and 243 acres in the townland of Brannoxtown, all in the electoral division of Carnalway, for the relief of the numerous congests and landless men in the district, and whether he will expedite the acquisition of those lands.

Mr. HOGAN

Particulars of the untenanted lands of Carnalway, containing 23 acres, Dunstown, containing 103 acres and Harristown, containing 13 acres on the La Touche estate, County Kildare, have been lodged in the Land Commission, and these lands will be inspected in due course. No particulars of the lands of Rochestown and Brannoxtown referred to have yet been lodged.

Will the Minister take steps to ascertain particulars of these lands with a view to their distribution, as there is some of the finest land in the country on that estate?

I think particulars have been asked for.

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture if he will state what action, if any, has been taken by the Land Commission to acquire the following lands near Newbridge, Co. Kildare, held by Mr. Patrick Bobbett, consisting of 182 acres in the townland of Kilbelan, electoral division of Morristown-Billar; 81 acres in the townland of Kilbelan, (township of Newbridge), electoral division of Newbridge Urban, and 48 acres in the townland of Great Connell, electoral division of Newbridge Urban, for the relief of the numerous congests and landless men in the locality, and whether he will expedite the acquisition of those holdings.

Mr. HOGAN

The lands of Great Connell have been purchased by the tenant under the Land Purchase Acts, and are subject to a Land Purchase Annuity. The Land Commission will have investigations made as to the lands of Kilbelan.
