Vol. 14 No. 14

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - SECONDARY TEACHERS' INCREMENT.

asked the Minister for Education if he will take steps to have decisions made as soon as possible on those claims which have been submitted for payment to certain teachers of increment grant for the current school year under the terms of Rule 6 of the Rules for the Payment of Increments of Salary to Registered Secondary Teachers.

Decisions have now been taken on some of these claims, and, where the decisions are favourable arrangements are being made to pay the teachers concerned. The remainder of the claims are still under consideration, and I am taking steps to have them decided as soon as possible and the results communicated to the applicants.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state why payment of increment grant has been withheld for service in the school year ended July 31st, 1925, in the case of secondary teachers who were registered during that school year.

The delay in making payment in the cases referred to was due to a doubt regarding the interpretation of one of the rules (Rule 1 (7) (b) of the Increments of Salary Rules) and the credit to be given for increment purposes in respect of teaching service for the school year 1924-25 in the case of certain teachers registered during that year. The matter has now been arranged and payments are being made to all teachers for whose service the necessary certificates of efficiency are available. A few instances in which such certificates have not been furnished are being specially dealt with.
